Pray Without Ceasing – Even When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
We often think that if God is good, life should be smooth and pleasant. But the reality is, life doesn’t follow a predictable pattern. Sometimes, good things happen to bad people, and bad things happen to good people. When this happens, we often search for someone to blame—ourselves, others, or even God—because we crave explanations. But the truth is, not everything has a clear cause-and-effect answer. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes, things just happen. Despite this unpredictability, we are still called to pray unceasingly (continually). Not because we expect God to be a vending machine, giving us blessings in exchange for our good behaviour or religious righteousness. No, we pray because we have fears, desires, worries, and joys that need expression. Prayer is not about earning answers; it’s about opening ourselves to God, who hears and holds every word we offer. Here’s why we should pray, even in uncertainty:
- God is with us. We don’t pray because we are good and deserve answers. We pray because God is already present in our future, already loving us through both the joys and the griefs of life.
- God catches every prayer. Whether it’s a complaint, a thanksgiving, or a cry for help, God listens and understands, and actively loves.
- God abides in every moment. Even when life feels out of control—during collapse, turmoil, boredom, or selfishness—God’s holiness surrounds us. It’s not something we always feel, but it’s always there. So, let’s not overthink our prayers. Just pray—because there is far more holiness and love around us than we can ever imagine! Mark
