The Journey App

A generation ago, committed church members were in church every Sunday. With the pace of life today, we are noticing that even the most faithful are on the move so much that they are likely to be in Sunday worship less often. This has a real impact on the worshipping community - two people in the same service who previously may have seen each other every week may now only be in the same place at the same time once a month.

So, we've developed a simple app to help build our sense of being in community even when we aren't physically in the same space. The Journey App helps to get us:

• reading the same Bible passages in preparation for Sundays (a full set of lectionary readings with Bible texts is provided each week and the sermon will usually be based on the gospel reading and one other);
• listening to recorded sermons when we aren't able to be in the service;
• reading the blog posts that are first published in the printed Sunday notices;
• using small group material linked either to the lectionary readings or a specific course being offered in the church.

We're still working on the app and it will in time be the central means of communicating with UMC - keeping you up to date with what is on the go and helping you to feel very much a part of the community. To install the app, click here.
