Strategic planning

Feb 08, 2015 Kym Bishop UMC news vision

You may have seen in the notices over the past few weeks that we are going through a visioning/strategic planning process at the moment, here at UMC. The leadership spent much time discerning our vision statement, which is, 'we are a worshipping community making disciples of Jesus to change our world.' And over the past week, you as the UMC community have been invited to attend strategic planning meetings to help unpack how we can fulfil this vision, practically, within the life of this church. Last week, two of the three meetings were held, which focussed on 'making disciples of Jesus' and 'changing our world.'

In these meetings, teams of people got together to brainstorm ideas of what discipleship and mission might look like, here at UMC:

  • The discipleship meeting brainstorming was around small groups, courses and spiritual formation and discipling youth and children.
  • The mission meeting got thinking about Evangelism, community transformation through education and training, and social action and relief work.
  • The final meeting will take place this coming Tuesday (with the focus being on 'a worshipping community').

It has really been wonderful, hearing the thoughts, dreams, ideas and hopes of a range of people, and we have a lot to think about going forward. Once the final meeting has taken place, the leaders will again be hard at work, discerning a practical way forward for us as a community of faith. The invitation of Jesus is for each of us to grow and mature as disciples of Jesus, and we believe some intentional thinking around what that means for this church is helpful. So watch this space..!

It also means if you filled out a Covenant form last week, expressing an interest in connecting and growing further, those forms are busy being processed, and someone will make contact with you soon. It is an exciting journey we are on, and we look forward to all that God is going to do in this place and in the lives of God's people
