UMC Mission Week 2016

Aug 21, 2016 Khanyisa

You may remember that last year, we had a team of volunteers from a Methodist Church in the United States come and spend a week with us.  They visited and participated in some of our Khanyisa Community Programmes.  After their visit, a number of people from UMC mentioned how they too would love the opportunity to see more of what Khanyisa does, and participate in a limited capacity in some of the programmes.

So, in September we will be having what we call UMC Mission Week.  It is a chance for you to visit and participate in some of our Khanyisa programmes and see and experience a little bit more of what Khanyisa is doing.  Have a look at the programme for the week, and sign up for the days/activities you would like to visit.  We will travel together as a group to the venue of each programme, and the level of your participation is up to you – we wont make you do anything you didn't sign up for!

The handout in your notices has more detailed information, but here is an idea of some of what we will be doing.  Please make sure you fill in and return the sign up form so we know in advance who is coming and can plan and prepare accordingly.  Why not sign up as a home group, and make it part of your small group's activity?

Saturday 3rd September (9am-12)
Planting a veggie garden in a local preschool
Monday 5th September (2-5pm)
Afternoon Session at Summerhill House in Etete, helping with homework and participating in a group life skills session with young people.
Tuesday 6th and Thursday 8th September (8am-12pm)

Wednesday 7th (2-5pm)
Participate in a youth life skills group in Hamba Nathi.  Our community worker will lead the session, and UMC volunteers will participate as members of the group with high school youth
Thursday 8th (2.30-4.30pm)
Join in our adult literacy class in the Upper Room at UMC

We are also looking for funding for these programmes, so if you would like to contribute financially, please contact me for bank details.  It's going to be a great week, so join us!
