The UMC leaders meeting gathered this week to reflect on the first quarter of the year. Here are some of the highlights:
We talked about the opportunity that the Easter weekend is to welcome new folk to our community – especially the sunrise service on the beach, which is attended by a very diverse group. We'd love to offer hospitality to guests on the beach, so if you're coming to that service, won't you bring a tray of hot cross buns to share with our visitors? Seriously :)
We reflected on the three morning services and were pleased to see growth in numbers of worshippers and in the team of volunteers involved in supporting all that happens on Sundays.
Our Sunday School is celebrating the arrival of a new classroom (the little wooden hut alongside the office block) and the growth in numbers of teachers – we have 10 teachers now, which allows for some rotation and opportunities for teachers to join us in worship more often.
The quarterly financial statement reflects the wonderfully generous giving of our people and we are on track in budget terms. We remain committed to tithing UMC's income to worthwhile mission projects and we will hear from one such project in the 08h30 service this morning as Jeanne Haley shares something of her work with Mpower (see www.mpowersa.org for more).
We spoke about prayer in the church and heard about plans for a garden of prayer and remembrance in our grounds – more details to come.
Mark down Saturday 28 June in your diary for a church family day (similar to last year's fete, but with the emphasis on fun together, rather than fundraising). And possibly a church camp later this year?
We give thanks to God for all he is doing among this wonderful, generous, faithful family here at UMC!
